Gemini is a Belgian draft horse that came to us from New Holland Auction. He is 25+ years old and was about 200 pounds underweight. He has a sore left shoulder and consequently he did not feel like moving very much. We were able to let him loose on the property to graze during the day until he started feeling better. Gemini is truly a "gem"...we all love him, he has a wonderful disposition and gets along with all the other horses. Until recently he was romping in a pasture with two young colts. Right now he is taking time out with some stall rest due to a slight limp which was probably caused while trying to keep up with the yunguns! Gemini has gained most of his weight back and he has been adopted by Kathy Babb, a local resident who lives about five minutes from LCR. Casey is a 21 year old Quarterhorse. The following is an e-mail his new owners sent us: Dev, just loves him. He bathes him and grooms him and rides him. He has
only walked and trotted but Casey has been a jewel. Casey does have
some lameness due to an old injury that has become
arthritic. It is either in his fetlock joint or the pedal bone itself. The vet
wouldn't know for sure without nerve blocking him and he didn't think it was that
necessary to pinpoint since we wouldn't be doing surgery on a horse of his
age. Instead we are opting to put him on a regimin of some bute and a
maintenance dose of Cosequin (glucosamine and condroitin) which the vet said
should make him comfortable. He did say that this is going to be progressive but
that we could continue with the treatment to keep him comfortable as long as
possible. Don't worry he's not coming back to you, we love him too much and he's
part of the family. Speaking of families, ours is going to be getting bigger
once again. Dev and I are expecting our first baby in November. I want Casey to
be around to teach the little one how to ride. He really is a good guy.
