Expansion Progress
UPDATE SPRING 2011
Concrete for the outside runs has been completed. Polyboard has been added between the runs for added security and to prevent our small dog escape artists from getting out. If funding allows, our plan is ot add a roof over the outside runs by the end of the year. If not, we plan to continue trying to raise funds next year for this project.
UPDATE FALL 2010
In September 2010 we had our grand opening of the new kennel facility and moved in the dogs. The ribbon cutting was held at our Fall Open House. The offices were completed in December and we officially started doing our adoption paperwork on December 4, 2010 in the new building. We still hope to make some additions including concrete on the outside runs as well as adding a rooftop to provide shade over the outdoor runs.
UPDATE SPRING 2009
When we purchased the new property with a building already in place, we assumed township requirements for its use had been met. Much to our chagrin, we were informed that the building is too close to the road to be used as a kennel facility. While the township did not seem very concerned, there were other parties involved that insisted this be rectified. As a result, a new kennel must be constructed, thus causing the plans for a state of the art equine facility to be moved to the back burner. Once we recover from the costs of the new kennel, we will begin raising funds for Phase III.
UPDATE SPRING 2008
We are so excited about the changes at LCR recently! We have added four sheds and fencing to the new property across the street, and automatic waterers for the pastures on the barn side. The pole barn has been remodeled to include kennels and an exercise yard for dogs. We are currently working on completion of fencing on the horse barn side. We are working on automatic watering stations on the new property, outside runs for the kennels in the pole barn, and are considering housing plans for cats.
UPDATE SPRING 2007
We are pleased to announce that Last Chance Ranch has officially added 25 acres directly across the street for expansion. The only structure on the property is a small pole barn. What an exciting time to be involved in such a worthwhile endeavor! Significant contributors who would like to commemorate the life of a beloved person, horse or pet, or who would like to recognize a living person, horse or pet, may have a stall, room, or building named in their memory or honor. Named Gift opportunities will be available for all contributors. Put your name on the wall and help make it happen! The possibilities are unlimited! This will be a real way in which you can continue our mission of rescue work.
UPDATE SPRING 2006
What a crazy year it’s been, both crazy and sad. The devastation to homes, families, and pets caused by Hurricane Katrina was more than the heart could bear at times. LCR sent representatives to Louisiana to aide in the rescue efforts and while working shoulder to shoulder with organizations geared toward small companion pets, we came to a broadener understanding of the desperate need for homes for these pets. What else could we do but start taking in unwanted dogs? So, we decided to join the ranks of small animal rescue and save at least a few of these "kill shelter" pets from such an undignified ending to their lives.
UPDATE SPRING 2005
LCR has been able to expand and house up to 30 horses thanks to the wonderful efforts of Graterford State Correctional Institute. LCR has been given a free lease with full-time care takers. To date, we have been able to send some of our long term rehab horses to live on the 74-acre hay fields of the prison. Inmates and guards care for the horses daily. This is an ongoing program which we hope to expand to include rehabilitation and instruction, utilizing more inmates and the ability to help additional horses that at this time we do not have room for at the main facility. Efforts are being focused on upgrading the current 10 acres with state of the art additions such as an Isolation and Treatment Barn, better fencing, additional indoor space for seminars and clinics, rebuilding fencing, and repairing existing buildings. LCR currently is continuing to seek out new possibilities for additional land to purchase in the future to continue to grow in our rescue efforts.
