Do I have to fill out an application first? Can I just drop by?

Visits to meet available pets are by appointment only and an application is required before we will set up an appointment for a visit with our adoptable pets. This saves both us and you time by allowing us to check your references and getting your application approved before your visit is scheduled. Once you are approved to adopt, we will set up an appointment and you will be able to take your chosen pet home with you that day.

How long does it take to get approval for an adoption?

Generally 24-48 hours with a vet reference. If you use personal references, it may take longer depending on how long it takes to get in touch with and get a response from your references. Please let personal references know that we will be contacting them and ask them to be prompt with a reply because your application is contingent on their response to our inquiries.

How does LCR determines its adoption fees?

Fees are based on the age of the pet and the treatments we have supplied for the pet (spay/neuter, dental, exams, etc.).

How long will you hold a pet until I can pick him up?

Sorry, but we won't hold a pet for more than 48 hours prior to your appointment. Unfortunately, we have had too many incidents of people canceling, changing their mind about owning a pet, or just never getting back to us, and some pets have missed out on great homes as a result.

I live in another state -- will you ship a pet to me?

NO! We do not/will not ship a pet to its new home. You must come and visit with the pet to be sure it is the right fit for your family. We have no distance restrictions for smaller animals, but horses must remain within 3 hours travel from LCR.

I applied for a pet but it is no longer on the website.

Please understand that dozens and at times hundreds of people view the pets available on Petfinder.com, Adoptapet.com, and several other sources. We often get multiple applications for the same pet, and we process applications in the order received. This does not mean that you are not able to adopt a pet from us, but you may not get your first choice. We get new pets in all the time, and we will be happy to process your application and get you approved while you wait for another pet that catches your interest. We will keep your application on file for 3-4 months before requiring a new one to be filed.
