LCR / Quakertown PetSmart Adoption Program Partnership

LCR has recently partnered with Quakertown PetSmart's adoption program.  Every person who adopts an animal from LCR can visit the Quakertown PetSmart and give them a copy of the adoption form provided to them from LCR.  In exchange, they will receive a book of coupons and LCR will receive a $10.00 donation from Quakertown PetSmart for each adoption.

GENERAL ADOPTION ADVICE

Helpful Tips for a Successful Adoption Process
  • Fill out all requested info completely and truthfully

  • Contact your vet and let them know we will be calling. Ask them to provide us with the information we are seeking.

  • If you cannot provide a vet reference, we require 3 personal unrelated references (i.e., boss, neighbor, coworker).

  • If you do not have a current vet, we will need to know who you plan to use once you adopt. Please be sure to note on your application that you are not a client yet, but plan to be with your first pet.

  • Ask your references to respond promptly. The approval of your application is reliant on their response.

  • Make sure your current pets are up to date on their vaccinations. Heartworm preventative is required for dogs. A Bordetella vaccine is recommended for your current dog as many of the dogs we get are exposed to kennel cough.

  • Respond promptly to our phone calls and messages.

  • Understand we may get many inquiries on the same pet, and we will process applications in the order received.

  • Everyone must follow adoption procedures: application, reference checks, visit, adoption. We will not adopt a pet to you without an application and reference checks. While we can accommodate a visit “just to look”, please understand we may have other interested parties with approved applications interested in the same pet.

  • We cannot “hold” a pet for extended periods of time. If you are not ready for a pet for several weeks/months, please do not apply for a pet that is available now. We will not hold a pet for an appointment for more than 48 hours.

  • When adopting a dog under 4 months of age, the maximum amount of time to be left alone is 1-4 hours. Puppies cannot “hold it” all day while you are at work. Do not apply for a puppy if you are away from home all day or cannot make arrangements for your puppy to get a potty/exercise break.

  • If you are an approved applicant and fall in love with one of our pets, you will be able to take the pet home the same day you come to visit. Please be prepared for your pet’s arrival at home.

  • Let us know if you are no longer interested in adopting or have found a pet elsewhere so that we don’t continue trying to contact you.

  • While we try to get all of our available pets spayed/neutered, we are limited to the availability of appointments with our vet. If you own a pet that is not altered, we will NOT adopt an unaltered pet to you.

  • Most importantly, research the breed of pet you are interested in to be sure that type of pet will fit in with your family’s lifestyle and needs.

Preparing For Your Visit
When you arrive for your appointment, please go to the office above the Kennel.
  • Keep the weather in mind, your visit may be conducted outdoors.
  • Do not wear your best clothes and do wear comfortable “old” shoes, especially if the weather has been wet.
  • Be prepared to take your chosen pet home -- have someone with you to hold your dog, and bring a crate for cats/kittens. Bring along a towel or old blanket for your dog to lie on in the car.
  • Ask questions! Our adoption counselors should be able to answer any questions about behaviors, habits, and personalities of our dogs.
  • If you are adopting a buddy for your pet, DO bring your pet along for the visit. Our trainer is available almost every Saturday to observe and supervise “new buddy” visits and usually can be scheduled for other days of the week.
  • Do bring family members that will be living with your new pet -- we want everyone to be part of the choosing process so that all will be happy with their new family member.
  • Be on time! Appointments are often scheduled very close together, especially on Saturdays, and we can process much more efficiently if you arrive at your scheduled time.

Kitten Massages Snoring Pug
It's not unusual for cats and dogs to get along well enough. They may often be found curled up together for naps. "Big deal," say the cynical. "That's a comfort issue. The snuggle for warmth, not love." OK, party poopers, then how do you explain this? A massage? You're telling me that's not out of love? Please. These two are BFF and we won't he…
