The following three photos are of animals with severe founder. It is so important to take care of your equine's hooves!

The next three photos are of Penny, a horse that came to us after supposedly getting trapped in barbed wire. Her owners did not want to deal with caring for her wounds so she was brought to auction where she stood for 4-5 days without treatment. LCR bought Penny at auction and nursed her wounds. Within three months she was doing much better. She needed frequent vet care to cut away proud flesh and make sure her wounds were healing properly

The next picture is very graphic so be forewarned! Leo was a horse that could not retract his penis into his sheath due to starvation consequently Leo's penis became frostbitten. We tried to save Leo with an operation but unfortunately he was too weak and did not come out of the anesthesia. Leo's suffering was totally preventable and completely due to the cruelty and ignorance of humans!

Libra is a large draft horse that we aquired at auction in October. He was left to stand in piles of cow manure when not being worked hard. He developed a severe bacterial infection and his legs were swollen and filthy. The long hair above his hooves needed to be cut off so we could cleanse his festering wounds and apply medication. Libra is doing very well now and is being foster cared locally at a farm with heat and warm water so he doesn't mind the constant scrubbing and cleansing so much anymore. Animal Planet is in the middle of filming Libra's story which will air sometime in the spring or summer of 2001. Check out the Animal Planet web site for the scheduled airing of Libra's story along with other rescue stories

The four photos that follow are of Albert, Norton, Fade and Gemini. All of these horses were very underweight due to simple human neglect!
