I just wanted to let everyone know who doesn't already that we had to have Jesse put down on Sunday August 29th. He lost this battle with whatever was causing him to loose function in his back legs. I found him Sunday morning lying in the pasture, we tried repeatedly to get him up, but his back legs just weren't strong enough to allow him up. I thank all of you involved with LCR who made it possible for Jesse to have a fairly pleasant twilight after what I'm sure was a very hard and sometimes cruel life. I personally thank all of you for making it possible for me to have the opportunity to adopt Jesse. He is directly responsible for where I am today in my journey in Natural Horsemanship. Although my ultimate mentor is gone, the lessons I've learned will not be forgotten. More importantly, he showed me what truth is, and no doubt he was a true friend. In light of the Smarty Jones phenomenon, we have been reminded of some of the great horses of the past, and the debate for who was the greatest. In my life, the greatest was Jesse, and there is a place deep in my heart that he occupies that will never be replaced. Thank you, Naturally yours, Ben

I spent the day with Ben and Joelle when Jesse, beloved equine friend, passed on. He was only 25+/-, but his neurological issues had taken their toll. I feel he waited until they had moved into their new home so he could always be there with them. Jesse was moved there on Thursday August 26th with the other horses. Friday night Ben said he seemed a little “out-a-sorts” Sunday morning, august 29th, 2004 he was found down in the pasture. He was unable to get up. By the time I got there he wasn’t even trying to get up. Jesse had told us he had had enough. The vet came and peacefully ended it for him. I feel he was ready to go although I don’t think any of us were really ready, especially Ben. This was not a huge surprise, but that doesn’t make it any easier.
