UPDATE: SPRING 2008-We are so excited about the changes at LCR recently! We have added
UPDATE-SPRING 2007:
We are pleased to announce that Last Chance Ranch has officially added
25 acres directly across the street for expansion. The only structure on
the property is a small pole barn. What an exciting time to be involved
in such a worthwhile endeavor. Significant contributors who would like
to commemorate the life of a beloved person, horse, or pet; or recognize
an existing person, horse or pet, may have a stall, room, or building
named in their memory or honor. Named Gift opportunities will be
available for all contributors. Put your name on the wall and help make
it happen. The possibilities are unlimited. This will be a real way in
which you can continue our mission of rescue work.
UPDATE March 2005:
LCR has been able to expand and house up to 30 horses thanks to the
wonderful efforts of Graterford State Correctional Institute. LCR has been
given a free lease with full time care takers. To date we have been able
to send some of our long term rehab horses to live on the 74 acre hay
fields of the prison. Inmates and guards care for the horses daily. This
is an ongoing program hopefully to expand to rehabilitation and
instruction utilizing more inmates and the capability to help additional
horses that at this time we do not have room for on the main facility.
Efforts are being focused on upgrading the current 10 acres with state of
the art additions such as an Isolation and treatment barn, better fencing,
additional indoor space for seminars and clinics, and to fix and rebuild
fencing and existing buildings. LCR currently is continuing to seek out new
possibilities for additional land to purchase in the future to continue to grow in our
rescue efforts. We are asking you to assist us with your tax-deductible donation in this worthwhile endeavor for the future Last Chance Ranch Equine Rescue facility. Please join us in making this campaign to continue to be a positive force in the community, to maximize its positive influence and to meet the growing demand for its services. PHASE IIA new facility will include, but not limited to the following state of the art features:
America would not be what it is today without the trusted transportation and enormous workload provided by the frontiersmen's horse. With the increase of today's technology we as humans have forgotten the basic simple life of our ancestors. Without the horse to transport goods and people cross-country, many pioneers would not have prospered so readily. Now the horse, donkey, pony, and mule have become a luxury and a pet. This majestic creature has dazzled many and amazed most with its forgiving, willing, childlike nature that in turn has become it's own devastation. The equine is an expensive and time consuming pet and most inexperienced owners or handlers neglect a horse through ignorance rather than abuse. Outright cruelty to a horse is a human's misconception they can overpower and force a 1500 +/- pound animal into succumbing to its handler's whims. The advantages of having an expanded facility are to accommodate the growing need for a committed home for a large animal for as long as they need one. LCR is committed to rescuing and rehabilitating the most desperate animals along with finding homes for the unwanted and old. The natural horsemanship teachings will enable even the novice to speak to and understand their horse in their horse's own language. Please help us help them by making this a reality.
