Which member of your household will be responsible for your pet care? Have the children in the household interacted/lived with pets? Is everyone in the household prepared for a new pet? Do you have food, shelter, a crate, and/or other items ready for this pet? It is estimated that it will cost up to $500 per year, (not including medical emergencies) to support a pet. Is this an expense you can afford? Are you aware of the license, leash, and animal laws of your community? It may take your new pet a month or longer to adjust to its new home. Are you prepared to allow this much time? Are you prepared to treat your new pet as a family member? Are you prepared to seek professional help if training is needed to maintain control of your pet? Pets often live more than 15 years; are you ready to be responsible for the pet’s entire life? Who will care for your pets if you are on vacation or gone for a longer than normal period? Our adoption fees are tax deductible and help pay for the spay/neutering, health care and food for rescued dogs, horses, and cats that live at the rescue. If it seems high to you, then you should reconsider adopting an animal, as the cost of veterinary care and food over the life of an animal is not something to be taken lightly. |
