"Any society which does not insist upon respect for all life must necessarily decay"... Albert Einstein

Last Chance Ranch is a non-profit (501(c)3), all volunteer Equine Rescue. "LCR" rescues the old, the young, the injured, neglected, malnourished, abused, and forgotten. We accept all breeds: horses, ponies, drafts, donkeys, and mules.

Neglect, suffering, and death often occur through ignorance rather than outright cruelty. One of our goals is to provide the new or potential horse owner knowledge so they can properly care for their equine. We are here for questions and instruction and are willing to teach anyone the proper care for all equines. especially needy equines or those in their senior years.

"LCR" has rescued over 3 hundred horses and saved many from slaughter. Some have needed special care and veterinary help. Many need TLC, rehabilitation, and sometimes all they need is time - time to heal...more time than their former owners were willing to give. "LCR" provides vet care, farrier care, dentistry, nourishing foods, rest and most importantly lots of love. Our horses have gone on to enjoy new and improved lives that include riding, driving, showing, and companionship.

LCR has recently educated, certified and appointed an officer as Humane Society Police Officer and are now able to investigate abuse or neglect situations and animals in need. Please report any and all equine abuse here along with you local authorities. Send to lbenetz@lastchanceranch.org with Humane or Cruelty in the subject.

We rely on the caring public to help us obtain or purchase these four-legged friends in need. This takes money. Often, when owners are no longer able to care for their horses, the outcome is bleak. Whether this is due to financial reasons, lack of time, or lack of interest, the animal suffers until it dies or is sent to auction. At auction a horse may endure terrible hardship and is more often that not sold for slaughter. These days the price of horse meat well exceeds the price for beef. This tempting financial gain motivates unscrupulous horse dealers to seek out ignorant horse owners who might unwittingly sell or give away a horse. These horses are supposedly going to "A Good Home Only" but in reality the dealers are selling these horses to a slaughterer. "LCR" offers an alternative for horse owners who no longer wish to keep their pets. We monitor the well being and whereabouts of all horses that pass through our facility....forever. If you have a horse in need, please see Horse Donations for additional information. (Currently we have a 1+ year waiting list due to the small size of our facility, we can only accommodate a certain amount)

Last Chance Ranch provides educational information through placement support, volunteering, and the LCR Horsemanship Program regarding guidelines for responsible equine ownership.  LCR educates the public about the terrible hardships equines experience every day, even in their own backyards. LCR will help prevent future abuse and neglect towards these magnificent, loyal, and good-natured animals.

LCR encourages people of all ages to come and experience the love and dedication a horse can give to a human.  Youth, troubled teens/adults, and mentally and/or physically challenged are all welcome to participate through volunteering or LCR Junior Club For those 12 and  under, or  the Teen Club for Teenagers. These programs give the participant learning and rewarding experience created by the unspoken trust and respect a horse can deliver.
