What is Last Chance Ranch Teen Club?

Do I need to prior horse experience?

Absolutely not, just come with an open mind to learn.  We will teach you everything you need to know.  Many of our meetings will be horse demos, so you will be learning a lot.

~Meetings will be on the 2nd Saturday of every month, 1-2pm business & 2-3pm Horse Handling~

The Last Chance Ranch Teen Club is a program for junior volunteers between the ages of 13 and 17.  This club is designed to teach teenagers basic horse knowledge that every potential horse owner should know.  Meetings will cover many topics which include, but are not limited to the following:

·        Basic horse care- Cleaning stalls, feeding, grooming, turnout, etc.

·        Anatomy- Horse coloring, marking, and parts of the horse.

·        Medical care- Signs of illness, taking temps, what to do if your horse is sick.

·        Farm Management- pasture management/ rotation, fencing, barn management.

·        Horsemanship- Horse language, understanding horses, natural horsemanship ground work and possible riding.

Club meetings will be help on the second Saturday of every month from 1pm to 3pm.  The “business” part of the meeting will take place from 1pm to 2pm, where we will teach a topic, such as the ones listed above.  At this meeting 3 dollar monthly dues will be collected.  The second part of the meeting will be from 2pm to 3pm and will include a horsemanship demo by Lori, if available.  After the demo members will be able to work a horse, practicing what they just learned.  Members can also come on the fourth Saturday of the month at 2pm for more horse handling time.  Members at this meeting will work with horses, practicing what they learned at the last horsemanship meeting.

Last Chance Ranch Teen Club will also be participating in fundraisers to raise money for the club to be able to do various activities.  Some of the fundraisers that the club can run are:

·        Car washes

·        Pony rides (movie premiers, community days, etc.)

·        Change Jars

The funds raised at these events will go to many activities and projects that the Teen Club is planning.  Club members will meet at the ranch and then carpool to the place where the fundraising or activity.  Some fun activities and projects that LCR Teen Club will be participating in with the money raised include:

·  Pizza Night at the ranch or at a local pizza place

·  Bowling

·  Fun full day activities that could include:

a)      Go Carting and Mini Golfing

b)      Rodeos

c)      Horse Shows

d)      And many other fun activities

·  Projects around the ranch

·  And more

The club also would like to run Pony Parties.  Pony parties are birthday (or oth3er occasion) parties, which will be at LCR, designed for children that want to have a party at a horse farm.  These parties will include a tour of LCR, a grooming lesson, a tacking lesson, pony rides and a cake.  The cost will be $10 dollars per child and the party will last for 2 or more hours.  The teen club is also interested in running the monthly tack sale.

The Last Chance Ranch Teen Club is also going to give back to the community by going to local nursing homes and hospitals with various farm animals to cheer up the sick and elderly.  In studies, researchers have found that elderly residents in nursing homes that get animal visitors live longer lives than elderly residents that have human visitors.  This should prove to be a successful program for both LCR and the hospitals and nursing homes participating.  The following are some ideas for the visits:

·  Animals that would be included in the visits- Atari (mini horse), the turkey, the rabbit, and possibly a dog.

·  Visits would be once or twice a month for a couple of hours on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon.  I would like to be able to visit one hospital and one nursing home a month.

This is just a brief description of what the LCR teen club is about.  The club will be getting custom shirts and jackets made for club members.  We are open to any and all ideas regarding anything that has to do with the club.  Please feel free to place any items in Jackie and Lauren’s Teen Club bin at the ranch, since they will be running the club.  If you have any further questions, feel free to contact us!
