LEESARGEANT

June 12, 1975 - September 29, 2003
"Sarge" as we at LCR found to be his name, had only a brief stay with us, but touched so many. It is always difficult to loose one of these magnificent creatures. It is harder to lose them when they go before their time. Sarge had come to us in desperate conditions needing the simplest of care like teeth floating, farrier, vaccinations, and good nutrition. The known history found on him was he had been through another rescue before and was then "sold" or "adopted" or placed in the hands of an owner unable to maintain the proper care of him. Sarge's last two years of life were, well lets say, not what the caring owner would do to protect and treat a valued family member and animal. His inconsistent diet and care left him with out the strength to maintain a healthy life. Lymphangitis, repeated abscessing and severe thrush left his immune system in shambles. Sarge's legs and feet were so stricken with infection he was constantly fighting pain and illness. The vets believe this may have led to his inconsistent eating and processing of feed which ultimately led to internal complications. Sarge could endure no more pain despite our efforts. The best we could do for him was to put him to sleep on  Monday, September 29th, 2003. He will be remembered in LCR's "Hall of Fame" and always in the hearts and souls of all who knew and could not help but love him.

The day we picked him up.

This is “Sarge” Registered as LEESERGEANT (discovered from his tattoo) ...  (formally known as Mr. Holland). He wass a 28 year old thoroughbred who came to LCR because his former owner could no longer care for him or pay for his upkeep. He is severely underweight and malnourished. He wouldn’t eat and was very depressed when he first arrived. He had been taken to a boarding stable in these conditions and had become very attached to his pasture mate as well as the boarding owner although he only had a brief stay there. Since arriving at LCR we have had our equine dentist float his teeth, he said they hadn’t been done in years and were as sharp as razor blades…no wonder he couldn’t eat.  Sarge had been eating much better and miraculously quickly gaining weight and coming out of his depression. He loved the attention and was easily handled by the kids even at his great height of 17+ hands. We will miss him greatly.
