All of us have felt the impact of
Hurricane Katrina followed by Hurricane Rita
and few can help but feel affected by the footage shown of the animals
left helpless in it's wake. LCR has been doing their best to help the animal victims get into safe
foster and possibly permanent homes. Two of LCR's agents were directly involved
with the rescue efforts in the flood zones of Chalmette and St. Bernard
Parish just outside of the city of New Orleans. Thank you to all who
helped by working around the clock to find homes and catch up on all the
phone and email messages offering support, foster care, and good
wishes. We will be writing a complete account of the trip, our
return, and the dogs, but it may take some time since the need is still
ongoing for homes needed for the overflow of the animals from the southern
states.
Thank You all for the outpouring of love and concern for these poor helpless animals. * At this time we do have a few more dogs available. We do have a few cats and kittens too, but not from the Hurricane regions, just from the overflow of too many animals in not enough homes or shelters. See the Companion Animals page for an update on the present push to rescue "Gas Chamber Dogs and Cats".
Thank you to everyone for helping with this disaster. We are working on plans and raising money for a special account for future use in the event of an emergency. God's will, we don't have another, but the possibilities of needing our assistance again in the future are very real and it could be as close as our own back yards. We want to be prepared for any type of situation, whether it be a barn fire, flood, or another hurricane on the east coast or the gulf again, we will be there and be prepared. Please donate today to our "Disaster Relief Fund" to help us be prepared. If you are interested in becoming a temporary home for a displaced animal in the event of an emergency, please contact me at lbenetz@lastchanceranch.org Thank you for your help, we couldn't have done it with out you!!! More to come... We apologize for the delay, we have
changed servers and it has set us back a bit. please keep checking. thank you
for understanding. LCR will be adding a new page with updates and photos of Louisiana
and the rescued pets. Please be patient, with all the animals in need and the
holidays we are a little over run with things to do. We could use some extra
volunteers and some extra donations to help us
through. This devastation still continues even though it has lost the media's
attention. Many animals, along with people, have been left permanently homeless.
LCR has partnered with several rescue groups and kennels to bring these homeless
animals to our area. If you are interested in a new pet you can fill out an
application and send it to us for possible future transports from the south or
you can adopt from your local animal shelter. They need you too. We must not
forget about the local homeless pets, many are waiting for a warm comfy home to
call their own and have been bumped by the pets coming from the disaster areas.
Please make room in your heart for a dog or cat. See
www.petfinder.com for listings in your
area. Please don't adopt one just because it is the new fad of owning a "Katrina
Pet" this is a life long commitment that should not be taken lightly or made in
haste. Pets do not make good Christmas, Birthday or Holiday gifts unless you were considering it
before the holidays. At this time we may be bringing more dogs to the area if we
have homes awaiting them. Let us know if you'd be interested. Help Rescued Dogs from the Katrina Hurricane
