UPDATE 02/13/2008 Gideon has been placed with one of our loyal volunteers. He is used lightly for some fun and trails and has an important job of teaching a yearling all the rules of being a horse. Gideon was returned to LCR. It has been found that Gideon is unable to withstand the demands of a riding program and has been retired from everyday working. He would be best suited as a 1st horse for someone to love and learn with. He is ridable, but not for hard riding. He is bomb proof and very well trained. He had been used for beginner lessons. He has had no reoccurrence of eye trouble. He will make the great extra horse or the weekend trail buddy. He is 16hh and a real looker. He has an old barbed wire injury on his left hind leg that needs to be moisturized regularly, but otherwise is as healthy as a horse. Placement Fee $750 Last Chance Ranch is located in Quakertown PA. All of our equines are placed within 3hrs. travel time from LCR to their new homes. If you are more than 3 hrs. from LCR we will have to respectfully decline your application. To see if you are within the distance limit please visit MapQuest through this link: http://www.mapquest.com/directions/main.adp?bCTsettings= 1
Gideon was returned to LCR in the spring of 2002. He had been misbehaving and even kicked a few times. He was untrustworthy and his handicapped handler was unable to keep him. After evaluation, Gideon was found to be suffering from UVitis. A very painful infection of the eye. He was unable to see properly and approaches from behind were scaring him so he fought back the only way he knew how...by kicking. We treated him with tetracycline fro 10 days and he was given a clean bill of health. A month of no other incidents and Gideon was placed available. He was then placed with some of our others in a riding facility in NJ. Everything is going well for him with extra special attention.
Gideon is a 15 yr. old Appaloosa that was given to LCR because his previous owner found his "pig eyes" intimidating and felt he was pushy and aggressive. Nothing could be further from the truth as his new
family will attest to. Gideon is a lovely gelding who did not have much formal schooling but is a very sweet, mannerly horse. His new
family are thrilled with him and we thank them for overlooking past the white around his eyes and seeing the real nature of this great App! Click on Gideon's picture for more details.
