Cease & Desist Rescind Order

We just got word this morning (Thursday 7/24/08) that the cease and desist order has been lifted and Last Chance Ranch can get back to normal.  Thank you so so much to everyone that has emailed, called, and dropped by to offer their encouragement and support, we appreciate you all so much!

Township Permits
A kennel license was issued to LCR a few years ago by the PA State Department of Agriculture allowing us to pursue the plan of rescuing and adopting out dogs.  Recently the Last Chance Ranch Board of Directors went to the Township to apply for the necessary permits for renovations to the pole building, horse fencing, run-in sheds and the construction of outside kennel runs.  We were told then that we would also need a different kennel permit (conditional use) since that property is zoned agricultural.  The township issued a temporary permit so we could continue to operate and begin improvementsTwo of our neighbors have since complained about the noise created by the dogs.

While we're very sorry to have upset our neighbors in any way, our goal is, and always has been, saving animals.  What the public, and in some cases the media, forgets is that the animals are the ones to suffer when rescues are not allowed to continue with their efforts.   We are a rescue operation and we operate solely as a non-profit organization.  We are currently in a position to better our facility so that we can save more animals and hopefully these improvements will resolve most, if not all, of the issues the neighbors have cited as bothersome.

We are trying to obtain the necessary permits to continue construction on the pole building which will include the outside runs as well as a treatment room, a receiving area, an isolation room for ailing dogs or expectant moms, grooming area, and heat and air conditioning in those areas. We are hopeful that the Township will issue the necessary permits allowing us to do this and continue saving lives.

Those of you that volunteer regularly with the dogs know what a difference this would make to improve adoption possibilities for them, as many of these suggestions have come from you.  We did hear you and are doing everything we can to make these changes happen.

We need the support and encouragement of all of our friends and volunteers.  The next township meeting is August 11th.  We are asking our 80+ volunteers and our countless supporters to write letters of recommendation to the Township expressing their support for Last Chance Ranch.

Please forward concerns and questions to Last Chance Ranch via email to lori@lastchanceranch.org so we can include them in our plans to better our facility and make it more comfortable and compatible for all involved.

Thanks to all of you that continue to support us. Hopefully we will be able to move ahead with our plans for improvements and create an even better environment dedicated to the loving care of our rescue animals.
